Authoring Tool Comparison
As we’ve mentioned in previous blog posts, there are a number of changes to the authoring tool landscape coming in the next few months. We thought we’d help you decide which tool might be right for you. We’ve created a quick grid to show what we feel are the key differences between the major authoring tools on the market: Articulate, Captivate, Lectora, Flash, and the about-to-launch ZebraZapps. To keep it simple, we stuck with features that might distinguish one over another, rather than features that are common to all of them (such as the ability to add audio or images).
As the landscape continues to change over the coming months, we will keep this reference guide updated. In addition, we plan to create a more detailed evaluation guide that includes some of the other players in the field.
Even though as a company we are vendor-neutral, we are still opinionated! We had some fun discussions internally about how to rate some of these, and at times, our own team members didn’t even agree. What do you think?
Update: We’ve fixed the comparison grid, which wasn’t displaying some of the characters correctly.
Very interested to hear what you think about Snap By Lectora, our new Powerpoint authoring plug in tool.
Hello, Simon! Diane posted some impressions of Snap! when it launched. I’m sure we’ll have more to come.

Hi!
What’s about iSpring Presenter? I’m waiting your comments vastly!
SmartBuilder?
I just found your chart. ‘Guess it was done a year ago. Not bad. I would evaluate some lower and some higher, but then wouldn’t we all. One that always kills me is the “Ease of Use” – which should really be labeled “How dumb am I – which is a precondition affecting how easy was it for me to learn”. I figure I’m average dumb so I tend to agree with that part.
PS. Glad I “Googled” for the comparison because now I will probably get a couple of your books.
Do you have an updated comparison grid of Storyline and Captivate 6?
